JOB OVERVIEW
Apollo Chamber Players (“Apollo”) seeks a Core Artist for an appointment on Viola. The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for both traditional and contemporary music and be versatile in performing across various chamber music settings including season, outreach, community and touring concerts, as well as recording projects. Competitive yearly salary of $40,000 includes a generous benefit package, with health insurance and retirement contributions. This position requires an average of 20 hours or 6 services per week, depending on the specific schedule and performance calendar.
The position will commence once the appropriate candidate is selected and hired. Successful candidate will be required to relocate to Houston if not already residing in the metro area. Houston is the nation’s third largest city and offers a lower cost of living in comparison to other major cities. The most ethnically diverse city in the nation, it is home to a vibrant economy, and world class art and cultural attractions. A variety of freelance and teaching opportunities are available in the Houston area.

QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must hold a Master's degree or its equivalent in music performance, along with at least two years of professional experience. Experience in professional chamber music is required.

EVALUATION PROCESS
Following review of applications, Apollo will select and invite up to five (5) final candidates for an in-person trial period. This trail period will consist of rehearsals and performance(s) with Apollo during the 2025-26 season. Final round candidates will receive compensation, and all travel and related expenses will be covered.

Chamber Music America’s 2025 Ensemble of the Year, Houston-based APOLLO CHAMBER PLAYERS is a “dynamic ensemble creating programs in response to current events” (NPR) that “recasts music for a diverse and multi-ethnic generation” (Strings Magazine).
